Ahhhh, summer...it finally arrived, just in time for the end of the soccer season as the Orange under 4 team took to the pitch against the Blues. How would our Itty Bits take to playing in weather other than threatening to drizzle? Only time would tell.
Coach Thompson was flying solo for practice time, and had his hands full to be sure. Hope and Grace Adams were all over the obstacle course, while Alex White and Spencer Humble started their own wrestling match and chase game to warm up. Emma Thompson preferred to watch things from the sideline, and after a hard day of playing in the sun, Maysie and Maiya Roberts decided that discression was the better part of valour, and called it a day before the game even started.
They call oranges the sunshine fruit, and the sunshine sure did make the Orange team a little fruity! Spencer and Alex were all set for football to be sure, tackle football! It was a sight to behold as the crunch brothers took themselves and their Blue opposition to the turf again and again, with nothing but giggling laughter filling the air. Hope and Grace traded spots as keeper and striker, and both had a good time running up and down the field. Everyone on Orange was having a great time to be sure, but no one on Orange was interested in generating any offence. Points have to be handed out for originality though, as they were quite happy to try and convince the Blue team they should be scoring on their own goal, not ours. Alas, our radical strategy was not enough to counter the Blue strikers. In the under 4 we don’t keep score, so our final game of the regular season ended in a standing ovation-standing ovation tie. What a great year Orange, way to play! Talkin’ Timbits, I’m John F. Adams
