Throwin’ In—Remax Under 8 game report for July 22, 2009
Submitted By John Adams on Wednesday, July 22, 2009
Rain was threatening to dampen the fields, but the players’ spirits were high as the Remax under 8 soccer team faced off against the Country Depot on Wednesday. Remax was coming off a big first win of their season and was looking to keep the streak going, but would the Depot have the stores to stop them?

Noah Page joined the Remax team as an under 6 call up as we were short on bodies and wanted to keep our strikers fresh, and injected some youthful enthusiasm into our ranks to be sure.  Our team was also hoping that another player, one Moe Mentum, would be on our side when the ball dropped, but only time would tell.  Remax worked the ball well in the early going, with James Adams and Amelia Arciszewski passing the ball well to get a shot on the Depot keeper, but he was quick on the ball and scooped up the shot before it could cross the line.  The Depot keeper was more than just quick hands though, and a solid goal kick sprang a Depot striker, and a bullet from just outside the top of the box found the range, and put Country Depot up 1-0.  Remax bounced back strong though, and after a big clearing kick from Carson Stevenson, Michael Primeau threaded the needle with a great pass through the Depot defence to spring Amelia into the red zone.  Amelia showed great patience, and got into a great spot and let a zinger go that beat the keeper on the short side to tie the game at 1-1.  Our newest team member, Noah, managed to get a foot on the ball in the centre of the field, and booted it well to the sideline, where it was picked up by Kevin Coady and moved up into the Depot end.  Some strong defence from the Depot turned our chance back initially, but Amelia was following up well and sent a rocket just wide of the net.  Remax went just wide again after a great throw-in steal, but that Depot defence just wouldn’t stop, and a rocketing kick was sent out to centre field.  Michael Primeau was waiting for the ball, and made a great stop with his stomach.  The Depot kept up the pressure though, and another dangerous shot from a Depot striker was stopped cold by our keeper, Matthew Gowland.  Matthew then showed that Remax has a few strong kickers as well.  Depot strikers pushed the ball back into the red zone though, and managed to pop a couple of quick goals to go up 3-1.  Joanne Page popped the ball out of a pack, and Amelia went digging for it, and hammered it into the twine to pull Remax within one at the half, 3-2.

The second half saw the Remax team fired up early, with Paige McLelland getting a touch on the ball to spring James Adams into the Depot zone.  He got a good shot into the box, but the keeper was there again to smother the ball.  Lindsay Gibson let a solid boot of her own go, and Matthew Gowland jumped on the ball at the top of the box and let a rocket go that found the back of the twine to tie the game up at 3.  Chances came fast and furious, with Kevin, Amelia and Matthew all just missing wide.  Michael Primeau stood tall in the Remax net as well, making a number of big saves and pouncing on rebounds before they could be dangerous.  It was coming right down to the wire though when Mr. Mentum decided he might like to jump sides.  A handball call was made on the Remax team in the box, and a free kick from the penalty spot was awarded to the Depot.  The box was cleared and it was down to the Depot striker versus Michael Primeau as our keeper.  The sidelines were all holding their breath as the ref blew in the play, and the ball was rocketed to the net....just wide!  The final whistle went, and Remax walked off the field with a well played, come from behind 3-3 tie.  Way to go team!!
