ReMax Loses First Match of Season
It was a tough fought match with play going back and forth but the end result was ReMax's first loss of the season. However, Big Blue showed a lot of class even in defeat.
The first half of this rematch game (these two teams played the first game of the season) saw a lot of pressure put on by the Coffee Culture squad and some very good goal scoring as they jumped out to a 1 to nil lead before the game had been 1 minute old. ReMax goal keeper Garishma Rangar did extremely well stopping a lot of chances, but before the first half whistle had blown the CC team had scored two more to lead the half 3-0.
The second half didn't see the ReMax'ers do much better although the tide of the game seemed to change a little at the beginning of the half, seeing a couple of great goals draw Big Blue to within two (CC had added a singlet before Blue found their scoring touch). Second half goal keeper Ben Leggett faced a lot of shots but came up big a number of times to keep the score close. In the end, the CC team proved too much this night ending the scoring with a couple more to end the scoring at 6-2.
When asked what happened coach Maurer had this to say. "I'm going to quote the great Boston Bruin goaltender Gerry Cheevers when asked by then irate General Manager Harry Sinden how it was possible that the Bruins had lost an important game - Roses are red, violets are blue, they scored six and we scored two. End of story". He then went on to say "I am extremely proud of our team. Yes we lost tonight but our players displayed great sportsmanship. Other players could learn from them."
