Re/Max Lose On A Last Minute Goal
The team from Boston Pizza scored in the last two minutes of the game to break a 3-3 tie and win the game.
Heat was the name of the game on Wednesday and with both teams short handed the heat would take it's toll. The first half saw all sorts of pressure by the Pizza team and good goal keeping by Garishma Rangar kept the score close for the first half. The score opened up on a questionable call free kick but Boston Pizza made the most of their opportunity executing a very well planned free kick to take the first half lead. A couple of very fortunate goals allowed the BP to take a commanding 3 nil lead when the half time whistle blew.
The second half was all Big Blue and the half time break seemed to serve ReMax well as they quickly opened the scoring an a exceptional effort to close the gap to within 2. Excellent goal keeping by newly inserted Sammy Maurer kept Big Blue close until they could poke another goal by the BP goalie to draw within 1. Constant pressure and persistent play paved the way for another ReMax goal to equal the score at three. The score would remain tied until the last minute of the game. Actually there was some question as to the length of the game but Boston Pizza took advantage and scored on another questionable call to secure the win with time running out.
"I feel really bad for the kids." coach Maurer said at the end of the game. They played their heart out in this heat and we didn't deserve to lose that way. I feel that I let the team down today. I should have prepared them better for some of the things that happened in today's game. This loss is my fault and I take it to heart." When asked about the officiating coach Maurer added "Nope, not an issue. I've been on that side of the whistle in other sports and I appreciate what they do. All of the referees need to be commended, they do a great job. Tonight was my fault. That's the bottom line"
