Kickin’ Back—Colhoun Family Chiropractic Game Report for June 16, 2010
Submitted By John Adams on Wednesday, June 16, 2010
The skies were grey and the air chilly as the Band in Black travelled to Ripley for a clash of the titans with the Ripley United team on Wednesday nights. Both teams were enjoying some early season success, and hadn’t tasted the bitter wine of defeat, but for one team that would end on the pitch in Ripley.

Things got off to a quick start for the Kincardine squad as Jacob Bishop rang a blistering shot off the crossbar that came straight down in front of the goal, and was cleared away in short order by the Ripley team. Undaunted, the Colhoun strikers kept up the pressure, and their efforts were rewarded when Ryan Gowland threaded the needle to Jacob, who missed all the posts and crossbar, but threw the twine back to put Colhoun up 1-0.
The Ripley United squad came roaring back, and moved the ball well into the Colhoun end. The ball found an open striker at the top of the box who let a solid shot fly, but Everett Luinstra was standing tall as the Colhoun keeper, and snatched the ball out of the air. Everett then literally threw the ball to the open field, relieving the pressure in a timely fashion.
Ben Imbaquingo was digging hard for the ball in the Ripley end, and his tenacious pursuit led to the ball being turned over by Ripley. Ryan Gowland was the set up man again, as he forwarded the ball to Jacob Bishop on the line, and Jacob’s shot proved to be too much for the goalie to handle, giving the Band in Black a 2-0 lead.
The Ripley United squad responded well though, and executed some pinpoint passing to move the ball into the box, where a striker hammered it home to draw them within one at 2-1. The goal set Colhoun on their heels a bit, and then a controversial handball call in the box led to a penalty kick for Ripley. The Ripley striker picked the bottom left corner of the net, and Everett just missed it, resulting in a tie game at 2-2.
Katie McTiernan made an unexpected stop with her noggin’, and the ball bounced to Alyssa McAllister. Alyssa got a solid boot away that headed to the Ripley net, and a scrum ensued. With Ripley trying to clear the ball, Colhoun strikers Alexadra Thorn and Jacob Bishop went digging for the ball, and the ball ended up in the Ripley goal. Sideline reports were sketchy, but it is believed that the goal was knocked in by Jacob, completing his hat trick and giving the Colhoun squad the lead at 3-2 at the half.
The second half saw both teams battle back and forth, and defense was top priority. James Adams took over in the Colhoun net, and was tested early when a Ripley shot deflected off of Carson Stevenson toward the net. James snatched the ball up before it crossed the line, and he and Carson shared a chuckle. Carson would use his boomer kicks to clear the ball out of the Colhoun box, and worked in a solid defense tandem with Travis Leschied. Travis was all over the field, cutting off a number of scoring threats by Ripley with quick feet, and solid clearing kicks. Emma Swift, Alexandra Thorn and Katie McTiernan came up with a great scoring chance midway through the second half, but the Ripley keeper stopped them cold.
In the end, with time ticking down, a final push by Ripley was turned back by solid team defense by the Colhoun squad, who walked off the pitch with the 3-2 victory in what was a highly entertaining, energetic, and enjoyable game. Colhoun maintains their undefeated season at 4-0. Well done team.
