May 26: Opening day in Tiverton
Submitted By kirkpatm on Wednesday, June 09, 2010
For those who remember two years ago when we opened our season in Tiverton you'll recall 4C and rain that felt like snow. This year's season opener was much, much different. 30C and hot, hot, hot. The temperature did not seem to affect Ripley United much as they netted 5 goals and allowed none to give them their first win of the season.
It seemed that the shutout was in jeopardy when Tiverton was awarded a penalty shot in the dying minutes of the 2nd half where a first time goalie, Victor, stood his ground and took a howitzer of a shot from the biggest Tiverton had to offer and blocked it. Saving the shutout and making the stop of the game.
It was excellent play by all with goals going to Liam (2), Annie, Jennelle and Cameron.
