Rockets Fall To United

The Ripley Rockets put in a valiant effort but fell to their cross town rivals, Ripley United 5-0 last Wednesday night in their second game of the season.
The final score was not at all indicative of the game as play was well balanced and neither team was able to register a goal until late in the first half. The opening goal, on an unstoppable header by one of The United's forwards past keeper Liam Chapleau seemed to open the floodgates. While the score remained but 1-0 at the half, the majority of chances and ball possession were in favour of united as their superior positional play paid dividends. The Rockets were kept in the game by their stellar goaltending tandem of Serena Rutledge and Liam Chapleau and the stallwart defence provided by steady Alayna Card and Alexa Collins. The midfield of Huzaifa Ali Zar, Shayne McCarthy and Ivy Farrell along with forwards Luke Richardson and Malcolm Maclennan provided plenty of energy and enthusiasm but were unable to dent the United goal.
The Rockets will refocus on positional play this week in practice and put their skills back to work next Wednesday against the always dangerous B&W Appliances.
