Meridian U-14 girls had a busy week, 2 home games...
one a make up game Monday, June 21st vs. Hanover Telesat . Getting off to a slower start in the 1st half and scoring with 5 minutes left to play . The 2nd half fruit break seems to boost our team energy level to a energizer bunny series battery as they all wanted to run, pass the ball, going out to battle with attitude to win, great wide angle passing & winning the small battles, finishing the game with a 6-1 victory . Goals were scored by Vanessa Hodgins (2) , Cassidy Colhoun, Maddy Duncan, Jessica Satosek , Charolette Bate. Goal tending was shared by Maddy Duncan & Mercede Battler. Play of the game went to Vanessa Hodgins & Heart of the game went to Dominque Frechet . Meridian's 2nd game June 23rd, at the Tower field vs. Walkerton Holst, who we have already played once this year with a victory earlier in the season. So far to date we were the only team to beat them this season and it turns out last week they beat last years league champs, Durham. So I think Walkerton came to Kincardine with a solid game, with some pay back in mind . Meridian were missing 4 grade 8's this game, affiliated 2 players from U-12's to help. Well with the kickoff, 25 seconds into the game, Walkerton scored with a attack. The wind was fairly strong in Walkerton's favor , but would be returned to us later. So with more battle , Walkerton still pushing hard, they ended up with a 2 goal lead to finish the half. After the fruit break , Meridian came to life, with Nicole McLeod holding the goal keeping. Meridian fought back, Bryan Fengler took a leg injury from a cleat missing 10 min. With the push of our midfielders & forwards , we had to make activity in the goal area , with hopes of scoring. We were awarded a penalty shot, took by Duncan , scoring 10 minutes later, scored again ending up to finish a 2-2 tie. Goals scored by Maddy Duncan (2) , play of the game & heart of the game went to both affiliates, Jessica Dales & Natasha Adler, as they both played full 2 halves ! The Meridian next game is at home, vs. Harriston Legion June 30th, 7:00pm @ the Track field............. submitted by Gord Kemp
