Girls Victorious over Saugeen Shores and Walkerton
Submitted By dhodgins on Thursday, July 21, 2011
Coming off a 2-0 win over Saugeen Shores in Port Elgin the previous week, the girls were pumped to play Walkerton Energizer on Thursday July 7th.  The game was controlled in Walkerton’s zone for the first half and forwards Kara Colhoun, McKenna Johnston, Tori Hodgins, Alyssa McAllister and Callie Martyn had many opportunities to put one in the back of the net, but were unsuccessful and it was a scoreless tie at the end of the half.

.  After a pep talk from coach Ray Luinstra, the girls returned to the field in the second half and began their attempt to take control and win.  With strong mid-field support from Vivien Adler, Eva Mallet, Rylee Evans and Kathryn Low, the game was mainly played in Walkerton’s half.  Our defense of Jane Miller, Darby Chalmers, Emma Swift and Rebecca McDonald shut down any attempts from the Energizer team and kept most balls away from goalkeeper Ariel Luinstra.  Midway through the second half, a foul on Walkerton in their box gave us a chance to score with a penalty kick.  Tori was able to put it past the Walkerton net minder, putting us on the board 1-0.  In the winding down minutes of the game, great teamwork resulted in a pass to McKenna in front of the net, who scored, giving us a 2-0 win.  Way to go Canadian Tire girls!
