Rule Changes affecting all U12 teams for 2014--Updated regarding Goal Kicks

As many of you know, this year marks some significant changes in the U12 league for Kincardine Minor Soccer as it is the first league affected by the new OSA Long Term Player Development program changes. In an effort to increase the touches that players have on the ball during games and make the transition from mini-soccer rules to full size pitch rules, the U12 league has shifted away from the previous 11 on 11 team setup on the full size pitch, to a modified 9 on 9 team set on an altered field configuration. This is the first year that the program is in effect, and following is a list of the rule alterations that will be in place for the upcoming season. 

9 vs 9 Info

1. Field of play Length 60-70 meters Width 42-55 meters


2. Goal area instead of 6 yards, its 4.5 yards towards corner flags along goal line then 4 yards inside penalty area towards penalty mark or top of penalty area


3. Penalty area, instead of 18 yards its 13 yardspenalty mark is now 9 meters instead of 11


4. Optional penalty arc 9 meters


5. Size of the goal length distance between the posts in 5.48m (18ft) height of goal distance from the lower edge of the crossbar to the ground is 1.82m (6ft) Goal size = 6ft high x 18ft long


6. The ball either size 4 or 5 if its a 5 it must be a light ball = weight 350-370 grams and a circumference within 60-70cm


7. Minimum 6 players, maximum 9 players




Unlimited substitutions may be made throughout the game. All substitutions are only allowed at the

discretion of the Referee and the Referee shall be advised of all substitutions.

The rules of the competition must state in which stoppages ( goal kick, corner kick, throw


substitutions are allowed


The length of each half is 35 minutes. The half time interval must not exceed 10 minutes

10 Goal Kick ! important differences from 11 vs 11

  1. 16.1.  Goal kick may be taken from anywhere inside the goal area by any player of the defending team.

  2. 16.2.  The ball is not in play and cannot be touched by either team until it leaves the penalty area. If the ball is touched by any player prior to the ball leaving the penalty area the goal kick shall be retaken.

  3. 16.3.  For U12 games the ball is in play when it leaves the penalty area and is touched by a defending player or, the ball leaves the defending half of the field. If the ball is touched by the attacking team player prior to leaving the defending half or prior to a defending team player touching the ball the goal kick shall be retaken
